Vexcel Imaging is proud to announce that the UltraCam Dragon 4.2, unveiled at Intergeo 2025, has been awarded the Wichmann Innovations Award 2025 in the 'Hardware and Software' category. The award, presented by Wichmann Verlag, was handed over at their booth during Intergeo 2025, where our CEO Alexander Wiechert accepted the honor on behalf of the company.
The Dragon 4.2 impressed both the expert and audience juries as a highly efficient and versatile hybrid aerial mapping system for high-resolution mapping of complex environments. At its core are the new IMX811 CMOS sensors from Sony, which power two nadir (RGB and NIR) and four oblique RGB cameras (each 19,136 × 12,736 pixels). This advanced sensor integration not only delivers exceptional image quality but also drives a 35% increase in flight line efficiency compared to its predecessor, significantly reducing mission time and operational costs. Combined with a 2.4 MHz RIEGL LiDAR scanner and an innovative multi-axis scanning geometry – including a dedicated nadir scan line – the Dragon 4.2 ensures comprehensive data capture even in narrow urban corridors.
This award highlights our commitment to advancing aerial imaging technology, our pioneering role in integrating the new IMX811 sensor and delivering solutions that meet the highest standards in geospatial mapping. We sincerely thank the Wichmann Verlag team, the expert jury, and the public for acknowledging the innovation and performance of the Dragon 4.2.
This recognition motivates us to continue pushing the boundaries of aerial mapping and to provide exceptional imaging solutions for customers worldwide.
