UltraMap v6.6 3D Improvements

With the latest UltraMap 3D production update, we’ve introduced a powerful combination of quality, speed, and flexibility improvements – designed to help you get more from your UltraCam data.

Let’s dive into how this release enhances every stage of the 3D workflow, from smoother mesh generation and significantly reduced processing times to expanded export options like Cesium 3D Tiles.

Seamless integration. Familiar workflow.

The updated UltraMap 3D module builds on the established strengths of the UltraMap workflow – automation, traceability, reliability, and user control. With its familiar interface within UltraMap Studio, the improved UI not only simplifies navigation but also offers direct visual access to intermediate 3D products, allowing users to inspect results before final processing. This visual clarity supports a seamless workflow that mirrors the generation of DSMs and orthophotos within UltraMap, significantly reducing the learning curve. Enhanced local reprocessing options, the ability to edit and reimport meshes from external 3D software, and extended export capabilities – including Cesium 3D Tiles, LAS RGBI, and LAS CIR formats – further support a flexible and production-ready environment.

        Improved mesh and texture quality

The textured 3D meshes are now more homogeneous and visually consistent, thanks to seamless transitions at tile borders. The 3D pyramid generation process has been completely overhauled, enhancing both geometric precision and texture alignment. As a result, surfaces appear flatter, textures are crisper, and overall visualization is smoother. One of the most impactful changes is the reduction in mesh complexity: significantly fewer triangles are required to achieve the same level of detail, depending on the complexity of the scene.

These improvements not only help preserve visual quality but also boost performance throughout the texturing and rendering stages.

        Major performance boost

The latest release brings a notable performance upgrade to 3D mesh processing. Enhanced algorithms and optimized resource handling result in faster runtimes, more efficient use of hardware, and significantly reduced storage requirements. These improvements accelerate production, improve responsiveness, and make it easier to handle large or complex projects without compromising quality.
