Aerial Camera Design

At Vexcel Imaging, we always strive to develop the best possible camera systems. Naturally, this begins with the system performance — for example, the image format, state-of-the-art electronics, and focal length — and the software to operate and process the sensor data. Meanwhile, we believe that the camera form factor design is as important.

All our aerial cameras are manufactured with premium materials and are characterized through their sleek and straight forward design that always reflects the quality and value of the product. For us, the camera design follows the functionality: to address the growing demand for lighter sensor packages with smaller form factors, all system components are integrated into the sensor head. Together with a robust and practical design, our UltraCams are ideal for a broad spectrum of data acquisition mission.

Design also takes into consideration aesthetics. Each camera consists of a white body and a black cone. The Vexcel Imaging logo is placed on the sensor unit, while the UltraCam logo is placed on the computing unit.

The corners of the cameras are painted in three different colors, each indicating a special category of aerial camera:

  • Wide-Area Mapping

For wide-area mapping we offer the UltraCam Condor, identified by its orange corners.

  • Photogrammetric Oblique

Blue corners indicate our photogrammetric oblique cameras, the UltraCam Osprey M3 Premium and the UltraCam Osprey M3 Essential.

  • Photogrammetric Nadir

Our photogrammetric nadir cameras each have a silver corner. In this category we currently have the UltraCam Falcon M1 and M2 as well as the UltraCam Eagle M3.
