We are pleased to present initial sample data from the powerful 2.4 MHz RIEGL Waveform LiDAR scanner, integrated into the UltraCam Dragon 4.1 hybrid aerial mapping system. The LiDAR scanner offers precise elevation information collecting up to 2 million measurements per second.
The sample data were collected in December 2023 over Horn, Austria, at a flight altitude of 550 meters (AGL). They display two flight strips in a north-south direction and two flight strips in an east-west direction. The scanner operated at 1800 kHz.
Evaluate firsthand the high data quality generated by its innovative multi-axis scanning geometry.
Exceptional coverage of complex environments
Capture vertical structures, such as building facades and the bottoms of urban canyons and narrow streets, with little to no shadowing. The LiDAR's innovative scanning mechanism accomplishes this through forward, true nadir, and backward scan lines at angles of +20, +10, 0, -10 and -20 degrees in flight direction. This is combined with a broad horizontal field of view of 60 degrees, enhancing block stability.
Consistent point distribution
Benefit from a consistent distribution of points across the flight strip, eliminating over- or under-sampling in specific areas, achieved through the regular pattern of scan lines.
Detailed object identification
Achieve more accurate identification and gather more detailed information on vertical objects and multi-layered vegetation by leveraging the scanner’s multiple viewing angles. This approach ensures the capture of the maximum number of last echoes, facilitating the creation of a precise terrain model.
